The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (NSW DCCEEW) is currently investigating the introduction of Home Energy Rating disclosure. This is a new program where a home’s energy rating is shared publicly with potential buyers or renters when a property is advertised for sale or lease.
The focus is mainly on existing homes, but they are also exploring if BASIX could be used to communicate the home energy rating of new homes
This work will not change current minimum BASIX requirements. However, the project could create an opportunity for builders building beyond the minimum BASIX requirements. This could add value and help projects stand out to potential buyers.
DCCEEW has advised it is aiming to design the program so it does not create extra work for builders or slow down planning or building approvals.
