The Building Commission NSW (BC NSW) has conducted a series of site inspections covering much of the State; more recently, Port Macquarie, Queanbeyan and the Riverina as part of its commitment to lifting building standards across regional NSW.
During the recent round of inspections, BC NSW inspectors revealed areas where improvement is needed, particularly with recurring issues relating to site signage.

- The Contractor licence number held by the licensee.
- Words “Licenced Contractor” or similar.
- The name of the of the licensee as indicated on contractor’s licence.
Where a Principal Certifying Authority (PCA) needs to be engaged for a project, they are required to display the following details on site signage.
- PCA business name and contact details, noting it may be a council or a registered certifier, after-hours contact details are also a requirement.
- PCA details must be displayed in a prominent position on the site.
- The words “unauthorised entry is prohibited” must be displayed until the project completion.
Master Builders Housing and Technical Dept are working closely with BC NSW developing a NEW prototype sign that meets the aforementioned requirements. It is anticipated availably early 2026.
